Satellite
broadband is a great option for those reside in
the areas where dial-up, DSL (digital subscriber
line) or cable service not available or
locations which move frequently. Satellite
broadband is high speed satellite Internet
allows you to surf the web, download movies and
music at much faster speeds than dial up.
Satellite broadband is technology where it
linked to a dish network subscriber service and
provides speeds similar to other broadband
technologies. Satellite broadband can deliver
speeds of up to 2 megabits per second (mbps)
downstream, and 1 mbps upstream. Compare this to
dial-up service that tops out at about 53
kilobits per second. That's about 39 times
slower than satellite broadband.

Satellite broadband technology provides
high speed Internet access to businesses, governments, Office and private individuals
no matter where they live or work.
There are different types of Satellite
broadband that users can get.
1-way Satellite Plans
2-way Satellite Plans
1-way Satellite Plans
1-way Satellite service delivers cost-effective broadband internet to
regional, rural and remote locations. The 1-way Satellite service uses
high-speed satellite technology for downloading all files via Satellite direct
to a receiving Satellite dish on your roof, carried to your Satellite modem
and into your computer and a dial-up service using your phone line for
uploads, such as sending files emails etc. Installation: If you choose a 1-way
Satellite plan you have the option to install the equipment yourself
(Self-Installation) or have a qualified Technician professionally install your
service. The Professional Installation is strongly recommended as aligning the
satellite dish correctly requires considerable technical expertise. If you
choose to self-install but find you need technical assistance or a callout for
a Professional Installation, charges will apply.
Advantages:
Disadvantages:
-
The dial-up connection is extremely slow
by today’s standards, making this connection type unsuitable for online
gaming, uploading large files to the Internet, and sending emails with large
attachments.
-
The telephone line cannot be used for
phone calls or faxes while you are connected to the Internet.
Who will this connection type suit?
This connection type is best suited to an Internet user with a limited budget
who wishes to use their connection to surf the Web, download from websites,
send and receive emails, and chat online.
2-way Satellite Plans
The 2-way satellite system is an upgrade compared to the 1-way. Broadband
2-way Satellite takes full advantage of satellite technology to provide high
speed downloads to your computer and fast upload speeds to send files, such as
emails. The 2-way Satellite directly transmits the signal to the Satellite and
directly back to your computer. This device will provide you with the most
direct and fastest way to obtain access to the Internet. 2-way Satellite
service sends and receives data via satellite, and doesn't depend on
land-based phone lines or cables, so it can reach places far beyond the range
of ADSL or cable. This connection type is best suited to an Internet user in a
very remote location. Installation: A qualified technician will do the
professional installation like mount the dish on a pole as these dishes are
too large and heavy to be installed to your roof, also install the satellite
software and load the drivers for your modem.
Advantages:
-
Offers much faster uploads than a one-way
connection.
-
No telephone line is necessary, so this
connection type can be accessed in the most remote locations.
Disadvantages:
-
The most expensive monthly fees of all
satellite connections.
-
Equipment purchase and installation are
very expensive.
-
Uses a different satellite dish to
one-way connections, so it is expensive to upgrade.
-
Although upload speeds are fast, the high
amount of latency on a satellite connection means that this connection type
is not perfect for playing online games.
Who will this connection type suit?
1-way Satellite plan or 2-way Satellite plan Members can purchase Ethernet
Gateway Device, which provides broadband routing, firewall and all the
applications you need to manage and control an internet domain.
